Overview

Azania purchased two Aconit class frigates to fulfil its need for colony protection in the French Arm and diplomatic projection in the Chinese and American arms. However the Defence Ministry raised serious concerns about its limited offensive capability. The MMC design co-op, whose previous work included the Faidi class courier, proposed their own design that would address these concerns and which, they claimed, would come in at an equivalent cost. The Defence Ministry was sceptical but Government policy at the time was aimed at developing the indigenous space defence industry and so the design was awarded to the Indonsakusa shipyards. Delays and changing specifications resulted in the Venda costing Lv5 million more than the Aconit but as the Economics Minister pointed out - it was five million into the Azanian economy not the French.

Of the five ships built only two, the Zulu and the Xhosa, have seen action - engaging a Beta class Kafer battlecruiser while escorting a refugee ship out of the Kimanjano system. They managed to delay the Beta long enough for the refugees to escape while only sustaining minor damage.

Description

The Venda-class is fully streamlined for atmospheric landings and has fuel for two interface journeys. The two MHD turbines are housed separately on either side of the main fuselage and are capable of independent operation in the event of damage or to extend the fuel range of the ship.

It's advanced composite hull and sophisticated hull masking makes it an excellent platform for hunting any pirates who are foolish enough to think that easy going means easy pickings.
