National Role-playing South Africa |
Welcome to the resurrected Azania in 2300AD website. Many thanks are due to Edward Lipsett for lighting a fire under me to get this back up after it was so unceremoniously dumped into a shallow grave by NBCI in 2001. Nate Birkholz This page and its links constitute a guide to the nation of Azania in the 2300AD role-playing game produced by the (sadly) now-defunct company Game Designers Workshop. Published in the late 1980's to early 1990's, 2300AD was a role-playing game with a near-future, "Hard Science Fiction" setting. This means that it relied more on realistic settings and postulations about future technologies than most other science fiction role-playing games of its day, and indeed even than most of the science fiction role-playing games of today, over a decade later. If you are looking for general info and articles relating to 2300AD, we recommend starting with Pentapod's World and One Man's View of 2300AD, as both provide valuable resources for the 2300AD roleplaying game. More links can be found in this site's links page. This page also serves a resource for the nation of Azania in the Grand Game 2, a play-by-email game of international relations in the 24th century. I am currently serving in the role of President of the nation of Azania in the Grand Game 2. The National Background section of this site serves to outline the national background of Azania in 2300AD. The RPG section of the site represents Azania in the 2300AD role-playing game, and as such will only briefly mention principles and issues mentioned in the National Background portion of the site. Where applicable, you will be referred to the appropriate section of the National Background. Please note that certain information presented as "factual" in the National Background portion of this site is purely fictional and intended for entertainment purposes only. Please refer to the South African portion of this website for links to real-world information about South Africa in the modern world. Please note that this page is a work-in-progress, and many links and sections remain unfinished at this time. Feel free to email me with any questions you may have and I will try to answer them to the best of my ability. The first section is a national overview of Azania. This section gives an overview of the nation, government, people, colonies, history, economy, and military of Azania in the setting of the game 2300AD. The National Overview section is also the main reference for Azania in the Grand Game 2. The second section provides resources for referrees and players who wish to use Azanian characters in a game of 2300AD, as well as providing details on various Azanian and Azanian-related adventure locations, items of personal equipment, vehicles, and starships. The third section is a list of links to the peoples, languages, politics, news, and history of the real-life nation of South Africa (real life? on an RPG webpage?). These links will hopefully provide you with some information about a fascinating and beautiful part of the world. Of course, this introductory gateway wouldn't be complete without a page of links to various 2300AD resources around the web. Introduction | Disclaimer | What This Site Offers | Read About: Zurich Institute Kevin Clark has been kind enough to host my article about the Zurich Institute in 2300AD, since it doesn't really fit in here. You can find it at Kevin's site, Pentapod's World. You can also go directly to the article, but be sure to look around, since Kevin has a lot of great stuff at the site!
